SCOTIA — Dorcey Applyrs, Carmen Duncan and Karen B. Johnson will be honored at the Women's Fund of the Capital Region's 10th Trailblazers Awards luncheon on March 9 at Glen Sanders Mansion,
The three women have been named 2018 Trailblazers for their generosity, spirit and leadership in blazing trails to make a difference in the lives of women and girls in our community:
Applyrs, Albany 1st Ward Common Councilwoman and faculty program director for School of Health Sciences, Excelsior College;
Duncan, chief coach and founder, Mission Accomplished Transition Services and
Johnson, Schenectady County legislator and planned giving manager for Proctors.
Registration and a silent auction will take place from 11 a.m. to noon, luncheon and program from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.
Reservations are required by Feb. 28.
Since 2006, the Women's Fund of the Capital Region has raised and given out more than $459,000 in grants, scholarships and emergency funds, with a focus on improving women's lives in the Capital Region. In 2010, it committed to an education initiative and 60 women have received these scholarships.
Cost to attend is $75 per person. Proceeds will allow the Women's Fund to expand these programs, helping a new generation of women become trailblazers themselves.
