Sephora Colonie Center Party

An editorial originally published in The Times Union, November 16, 2007

Last night’s Sephora pre-opening party in Colonie Center drew 600 people from around the Capital Region and the line to get in the store extended down the mall past three stores. I imagine it was a loss prevention nightmare.

I was a little worried the Albany Sephora would be on par with the other chain stores we have in the area — the product selection wouldn’t be as good as its larger-city counterparts (ex: Macy’s here doesn’t carry any brand more premium than DKNY for women or Lacoste for men while other Macy’s stores have Louis Vuitton and Zegna), but I was wrong.

The nearly 6,000-square-foot store was stacked with products from Fekkai, Murad, Fresh, Bliss, Philosophy and many, many others.

As for the party, it could best be compared to an adult slumber party. They had food and drinks, dance music and free makeovers. The women (there were only about a half-dozen men milling about, most holding an armful of coats and bags and craning their necks looking for their wives/girlfriends) chatted and shopping, sampled more than 15,000 beauty products and lined up 50+-deep to purchase, in some cases, hundreds of dollars worth of product.

Check out photos from the night after the jump.
