Women’s Fund of the Capital Region announces grants

ALBANY, NY – The Women’s Fund of the Capital Region announced its 2010 grant recipients.
Founded in February 2006, The Women’s Fund of the Capital Region promotes the independence, growth and self-determination of women and girls by supporting projects that create systemic change and move women and girls toward financial stability and independence. Since 2007, the fund has granted $168,000 to area programs.
Grants were awarded to the following programs:
Capital District Women’s Bar Association – The Domestic Violence Legal Connection
Program provides information meetings to victims of domestic violence seeking assistance with family court and matrimonial matters.
Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center of Saratoga – The Financial Literacy Program
Program focuses on prevention by providing financial, goal setting and decision making information to give high school girls better understanding for future positive life choices.
Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless – The Pathway to Success: A Life Skills Workshop
Series helps homeless women develop the skills needed to find employment, including resume writing, job application, interview skills and building self esteem.
League of Women Voters New York State – The Second Annual Girl’s Day Out event has
7th grade girls participating in a full day of activities based on growth, leadership and decision making. The goal is to develop the skills needed to build healthy relationships and gain control of life situations.
Northeast Health Memorial School of Nursing – The Life Support Fund for Nursing Students
allows nursing students who live below the poverty line to request one time grants to help with emergency situations, such as a car repair, so a life problem does not sidetrack their education.
Safe Inc. of Schenectady – The Work Readiness Certification Program provides services to women and girls engaged in sexual exploitation by giving them the needed skills to obtain employment.
The Women’s Fund of the Capital Region is a groundbreaking collaboration of The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region and United Way of the Greater Capital Region.
