New Education Initiative in 2010

We remain committed to the mission of the Women’s Fund: The Women’s Fund promotes the independence, growth and self-determination of women and girls by supporting projects that create systemic change and move women and girls toward financial stability and independence.

In a continued effort to achieve the greatest impact for women in our community, we are committing to a new 3-5 year, sharply focused education initiative, to help motivated but struggling adults achieve their degree goals. Committed to career advancement through higher education, they still face obstacles to degree completion as they juggle home, work and school.

Our new scholarships and grants (offered in partnership with area schools like Hudson Valley Community College) help students overcome obstacles - not just tuition expenses - but also the challenges of childcare costs, transportation, licensing exam fees and more on their path to a better future.

These women will also gain the capacity to invest in their families, workplaces and communities. They will also serve as role models and trailblazers for a new generation of women to follow in their paths.

Our new two-pronged program offers a helping hand.

The scholarship program gives a needed boost to women who have returned to the educational system. It offers financial assistance to cover expenses, support materials, supplies and related costs to complete their program and attain their career.

The emergency financial assistance program will aid women in crisis – or to prevent a crisis. It provides cash assistance for a timely resolution, without interrupting the women’s coursework. (Under development.)

Here are some of the ways these programs will help women in our community:

$1700 tuition for one semester
$500 books for one semester
$175 licensure exams, permit to practice, fees, etc.
$87 parking for one semester
$65 one month bus pass
$35 nursing permit to practice

We want to invest in her future.

  • Single moms aiming for a better life for themselves and their children.
  • Working women who don’t qualify for aid, so they struggle with mounting education-related debt.
  • Women returning to school after putting off their dreams of meaningful jobs and financial stability.
  • Survivors of domestic violence.

Please join us in extending a helping hand.
