Girl Rising - free public viewing and panel discussion
April 11, 2017

Girl Rising logo On Tuesday, April 11, 2017, the Women’s Fund of the Capital Region collaborated with the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Northeastern New York as well as the Helen M. Upton Women’s Studies Centre at Russell Sage College for a free public viewing and panel discussion on the inspiring film Girl Rising.

Women’s Fund Steering Committee Member Amy Clinton was joined by three other community organizations (The Legal Project, YWCA of the Greater Capital District and Zone Club of Albany) on the panel discussion. Panelists spoke about their respective organizations and how they were working to overcome the disparities for women and girls in education, economic security and access to opportunities. Amy spoke quite passionately about why she was motivated to join the Fund and ways in which others might volunteer with us. Thanks, Amy, for representing the Women’s Fund and thank you to everyone who came.

Since the release of this film in 2013, Girl Rising has touched the lives of women and men, girls and boys around the world. What started as film to draw attention to the 130 million girls worldwide that were out of school, has grown into a campaign with a purpose: raise the value of girls and women, build diverse partnerships and provide ways for people to get involved. We are proud at the Women’s Fund to be working on all three pillars of this campaign.
